    Welcome to my webpage.  I am a second-year graduate student in social psychology at The Ohio State University working with Dr. Rich Petty.  I completed my undergraduate education at North Dakota State University working with Dr. Raymond Miltenberger.

    In my undergraduate years I was involved in a couple of research projects.  Some of them were focused on cognitive-behavior therapy to reduce problem behaviors in children, and my independent projects were aimed at assessing the effectiveness of sexual abuse prevention programs.  Currently, I have a number of research interests but only a few of these interests have manifested themselves into research projects thus far.

Research Interests (some of which may or may not lead to future research):

Research Projects:

• The effect(s) of involvement on persuasion - If one is highly involved with a particular attitude object, when presented with a persuasive message does it matter whether that attitude object is linked with the values or goals they find important?  We think not.
   

• Creating a false context: Challenging the Spinozan model - The Spinozan model of belief states that upon comprehension of an idea it is immediately accepted as true and in order to mentally label the idea as false one must undergo an effortful falsification process.  Acceptance occurring simultaneously with comprehension has always been considered a default, but we think that under some circumstances false may be the default.  A default value of false may result from situational or individual factors not accounted for in prior experiments.

• Sleeper effect - Applying principals of implicit and explicit attitude measurement to a classic social psychological phenomenon.

• Negation Tags - How people store and use negating information is still an open question.  In this project we explore both of these topics.

• Perceived Amount of Thought - With this project we are attempting to trace the path through which operative and meta-cognitive processes have an effect on attitude certainty.
