General Instructions

Thank you for your interest in graduate study in psychology at The Ohio State University.  By following the instructions on this page you will complete both your Psychology and Ohio State Graduate School Applications online.

Please print this page before proceeding.

Important Deadlines

November 11, 25 and 26, December 23, 24, and 31, 2010 are holidays.

Clinical (domestic) applications completed by December 1, 2010

All other Domestic applications completed by December 15, 2010

                    International applications completed by November 30, 2010

Transcripts take 2-4 weeks to be processed by the Admissions Office.

Please Note

The Psychology Department ONLY Admits During Autumn Quarter Each Year.
The Psychology Department ONLY Admits Students Interested in Acquiring a Ph.D.

Things You Do Online

1.) Complete Ohio State University Graduate School Application

You Will Need: a Credit Card (Fee: $40 domestic, $50 International)

Make Sure You Complete the Financial Aid section of Graduate School Application for Fellowships, Teaching Associateships and Research Associates by checking the boxes!

Once you complete the Graduate School application--you will need the same ID# to complete the Psychology application.   Make sure you write the ID # down before you start the Psychology application.



2.) Complete Department of Psychology Application--AVAILABLE--July 1, 2010

When you click "next" at the bottom of this page you can fill out the Psychology application.  The Psychology application is free.                                                               

You Will Need:

a.) Information on all Psychology courses taken (Course, Instructor, Grade, Credit Hrs)

b.) Autobiographical Statement:
This statement is very important. It should not exceed 600 words (no more than two typed and double spaced pages or one single spaced page). Please describe why you wish to pursue graduate study, why you chose psychology as your major field of graduate study, and why you are interested in attending Ohio State.  You only upload this to the Psychology application.  It is not necessary to upload it to the Graduate School application or to send copies.

c.) Vitae/Resume:

Required of all applicants who wish to be considered for a Graduate School Fellowships.  You only upload this to the Psychology application.  It is not necessary to upload it to the Graduate School applicaiton or to send copies.

d.) References: The names of only three people writing your letters of recommendation. 

  1. Recommendation forms--use electronic forms on the Graduate Application web site. Electronic forms cannot be accessed until you access the Graduate Applicantion and pay the application fee. The recommendation form is attached to the electronic forms and is included when it is sent to the recommender. When recommendation letters are sent electronically--there is no need to send a hard copy. Electronic letters are received by the Psychology Department. You can track the status of your letters in the "review activity" on that site.


Things You Do By Mail: Send two OFFICIAL (do not send copies) Transcript from EACH School Attended.

  2. Send the second transcript to the Psychology Department:

  1. Have Your Official General GRE Scores Sent to Ohio State (1592).  International Students Must Submit OFFICIAL TOEFL Scores (do not send copies) if they have not graduated from an accredited U.S. university or college. 

  2. Applicants can check the status of their Graduate School application, gre, toefl, and transcripts on the admissions web site--    Applicants cannot check the status until the application is submitted.    Missing items will be listed there.    Decisions will also be posted there.
